So my question is - "What is the future for phpBB"?
I started "using" about 18 years ago, when EXT's or Mods as they where called came in txt files.
That was "the white screen on death" for me :D
My old board is still active but with only 40-50 users that bothers to login and about 6000 guests on a daily basis.
In the old days it was +300 users and a lot of posting.

I guess the stats here is the same. Activity has dropped.
The question about the future of phpBB is valid, but impossible to predict.
I do think its hard to attract new young coders for the project who is willing to code in their free time.
Probably caused by the low visibility we have these days.

I do believe there is a future for phpBB, but for now, consolidating would be a forced choice.
Also the only choice.
Working on something that was outdated years ago seems like a waste of ressouces that we dont even have.
For the future development I do think that user friendliness is the way forward. The bbcode system? Even I cant remember how to use the list bbcode
Take a look at what the youngsters use and copy it.

5 years from now everything could look very different from today.
So hang on and try the positive approach. it will get better.
