Another way I found people were doing some SEO "spam" is through the "location". It is a very old technique (my first user doing so dated back 2006 ![:oops:]( "Embarrassed")
) but I got a handful users doing it in the past months so may be this is a re-discovered technique by spammers.
Instead of a city the user will enter a url and it will display as a link below their name. The simple solution is to change the validation for that field but the UI to get there in the admin panel isn't that easy to find and I did not find how to save the changes... I resorted to make the change directly in the DB.
"admin control panel" > "users & groups" > "Custom profile fields" > click on edit for "phpbb_location" > "Profile type specific options" (bottom right)
I can change the validation for the field but I do not see a "save button" so it does nothing.
